Children’s Flag Raising Ceremony

On April 1, 2025, a special Children’s Flag Raising Ceremony was held at the Riverside County Administrative Center. Now in its third year, the ceremony honored the lives of young people lost due to abuse, neglect, and violence. It also served to educate the community on recognizing the signs of abuse and highlighted the collaborative efforts of organizations across the county dedicated to protecting children’s well-being.

Community members gathered to pay their respects to victims and reaffirm their commitment to creating a safer environment for children. This year’s ceremony was emceed by Riverside County Executive Officer Jeff Van Wagenen. Speakers included Katie Gilbertson from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office – Victim Services Division, Bridgette Hernandez from the Department of Public Social Services, Sheriff Chad Bianco of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, First District Supervisor Jose Medina, and Second District Supervisor Karen Spiegel.

The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt performance by the Jackson Elementary School Choir from Riverside Unified School District, leaving attendees with a powerful message of hope and unity.
